# Can HiFi replace my phone's built-in Phone app?

## Can I make HiFi my default phone app?

No. HiFi can’t be set as your default phone app on iPhone or Android. Your phone’s built-in Phone app stays in place, and HiFi works alongside it.

Calls reach HiFi in one of two ways:

- **Call forwarding:** Your carrier forwards calls from your existing number to HiFi. For details, read “What is call forwarding?”

- **A HiFi number:** People call your **HiFi number**, and those calls go straight to HiFi.

In both cases, HiFi calls travel over the internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data). HiFi rings you or answers for you, based on your settings.

## Why don’t calls from my built-in Phone app go through HiFi?

Calls you place from your phone’s built-in Phone app go out through your carrier, from your carrier phone number. HiFi doesn’t handle those calls, so you won’t get a summary, transcript, or scam warnings for them.

To make a call through HiFi, use HiFi itself:

1. Open HiFi.

2. Tap the **Dial** tab, or open a contact in the **Contacts** tab.

3. Enter the number, or choose the contact’s number.

4. Tap the call button.

You can also tap **Call back** from a call’s **Call Details**. If you have a **HiFi number**, the person you call sees your **HiFi number**.
