How your data is used and who can see it

How does HiFi use my call data?

HiFi uses your call data to provide the features you see in the app. For example, HiFi uses it to:

  • answer calls the way you chose in HiFi answers calls from

  • take voice messages for you

  • create transcripts and call summaries

  • suggest calendar events and reminders

  • warn you about possible scam calls

  • show your history in Call Activity and Call Details

For the full description of how Hiya collects, uses, shares, and keeps your data, read the Hiya Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy has the complete details.

How does HiFi use my contacts?

HiFi uses the contacts you allow it to access so it can recognize and greet people you know. Your contacts also decide how calls are handled when you choose Unknown callers only or Contacts only in HiFi answers calls from.

You choose how much to share. You can give HiFi access to all your contacts or, on iPhone, only selected contacts. You can change this anytime in your phone’s settings. For steps, see “Give HiFi access to your contacts”.

Who can see my calls, transcripts, and messages?

In the app, your calls, transcripts, summaries, voice messages, and text messages appear only in your HiFi account. Some actions share information with other people or with Hiya:

  • Sharing call details: when you use Share call details, you choose what to send, such as the call summary, transcript, or voice message audio, and who receives it.

  • Text messages: the people you text receive your messages, as with any text.

  • Feedback: when you rate a summary and check Include transcript to help us improve, the transcript is sent to Hiya with your feedback.

  • Spam reports: reports you send go to Hiya to help improve spam detection.

For details about who at Hiya can access your data, and which service providers help run HiFi, read the Hiya Privacy Policy.

How do spam reports and blocking use my data?

When you report a call or message as spam, or tell HiFi a call is Not spam, HiFi sends that report to Hiya. Hiya uses reports to improve spam and scam detection.

Hiya keeps certain spam and fraud report data that you submit, even after you delete your account. Numbers on your Block list are stored with your account so HiFi can block them for you, and are deleted when you delete your account.

What control do I have over my data?

You can limit or remove your data in these ways:

  • Incognito: keep part of a live call out of the transcript and summary. See “Keep part of a call private with Incognito”.

  • Delete a call: remove a call and its details from Call Activity.

  • Delete a conversation: remove a text conversation from Messages. It stays in Deleted messages for 30 days unless you tap Delete forever.

  • Contacts access: share all your contacts, selected contacts (on iPhone), or none.

  • Delete your account: remove your account and its data. See “Delete your HiFi account and data”.

Your use of HiFi is also covered by the Hiya Terms of Service.
