# Filter, search, and manage conversations

## How do I filter my messages?

Tap a filter at the top of the **Messages** tab to show only certain conversations. Each filter shows how many unread messages it contains.

-   **All messages** shows every conversation.
    
-   **Your contacts** shows conversations with people saved in your contacts.
    
-   **Unknown numbers** shows conversations with numbers you haven’t saved.
    
-   **Deleted messages** shows conversations you deleted in the last 30 days.
    

## How do I search my messages?

Use the search bar at the top of the **Messages** tab to search across all your conversations. Type a word, name, or number. If nothing matches, HiFi shows **No results found**.

To search within one conversation, open the conversation and use its search option.

Message search is separate from the search bar on **Home**. The **Home** search finds calls and contacts, not messages.

## How do I mark a conversation as read or unread?

Press and hold a conversation in the **Messages** tab, then tap **Mark as read** or **Mark as unread**. Mark a conversation as unread to remind yourself to reply later.

Unread conversations count toward the unread number shown on each filter at the top of the **Messages** tab. Opening a conversation marks it as read.

## How do I delete a conversation?

Press and hold the conversation in the **Messages** tab, then tap **Delete conversation**. HiFi moves the conversation to **Deleted messages**, where it’s kept for 30 days.

To delete a conversation and block the number, tap **Block and delete** instead. HiFi adds the number to your **Block list**.

Deleting a conversation removes it from your HiFi inbox only. It doesn’t remove messages from the other person’s phone.

## How do I delete several conversations at once?

1.  Press and hold a conversation in the **Messages** tab to start selecting.
    
2.  Tap each conversation you want to delete, or tap **Select all**.
    
3.  Tap **Delete selected**.
    

The conversations move to **Deleted messages**, where they’re kept for 30 days. You can restore them from there until the 30 days are up.

## How do I restore or permanently delete a conversation?

Open the **Deleted messages** filter at the top of the **Messages** tab. Conversations stay there for 30 days after you delete them.

-   To bring a conversation back, open it and tap **Restore messages**.
    
-   To remove it permanently right away, tap **Delete forever**. You can’t undo this.
    
-   To remove it right away and block the number, tap **Delete forever and block**.
    

## How do I copy, forward, save, or delete a single message?

Press and hold a message in a conversation, then choose an action:

-   **Copy** copies the message text or attachment.
    
-   **Forward** sends the message or its attachment to another conversation.
    
-   **Save to Photos** or **Save File** saves an attachment to your phone.
    
-   **Delete** removes the message from your view.
    

When you delete a message you sent, HiFi reminds you: “Your message will remain visible to others in the conversation.” Deleting doesn’t unsend a message.
