Send photos, videos, and files

How do I add a photo, video, or file to a message?

Tap the attach button next to the text field in a conversation, then choose where the attachment comes from.

  1. Open a conversation in the Messages tab.

  2. Tap the attach button (plus icon) next to the text field at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Choose a source:

    • On iPhone: Image or video, Camera, or File.

    • On Android: Image or video, Take a photo, Take a video, or Upload file.

  4. Select or capture your attachment.

  5. Type a message, if you want to add text.

  6. Tap the send button.

If you haven’t given HiFi access to your photos or camera, your phone asks for permission. If you denied access before, HiFi sends you to your phone’s settings to turn it on.

What types of files can I send?

You can send and receive these file types:

  • Images: JPEG/JPG, PNG, GIF, HEIC, and HEIF

  • Videos: 3GP and MP4

  • Audio: MP3, MP4, and WAV

  • Documents: PDF, Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), and text files (.txt)

  • Contact cards: .vcf

If you try to send another type, HiFi shows “This attachment type isn’t supported.”

How many attachments can I send at once?

You can add several attachments to one message, in any combination of supported types. HiFi limits how many you can add at once. When you reach the limit, HiFi shows “You can attach up to … files” with the number, and you can’t add more until you remove one.

Before you send, your attachments appear in a scrollable row above the text field. Each one shows its file type and size. To remove an attachment, tap the remove button (X) on it.

When you send attachments with text, HiFi sends the attachments first and the text last.

What happens when I send a large file?

When an attachment is larger than 5 MB, the recipient gets a link to view it instead of the file itself. The recipient doesn’t need HiFi to open the link. They tap it in their normal messaging app.

How do I view photos and videos in a conversation?

Tap any image or video to open it in a full-screen viewer. This works for media you sent and media you received.

  • GIFs play automatically in the conversation.

  • Videos stay paused until you tap play. A video keeps your place when you move between the conversation and full-screen view.

  • Rotate your phone to view full-screen media in landscape. HiFi returns to portrait when you close the viewer.

Every attachment you send or receive shows its file type and size.

How do I save an attachment to my phone?

Press and hold the attachment, then choose a save option:

  • Save to Photos saves an image or video to your phone’s photo library.

  • Save File saves a document or other file to your phone’s files.

You can also tap Copy to copy the attachment, or Forward to send it to another conversation.

Troubleshooting

  • “Couldn’t send. The attachment may be too large.”: Remove the attachment or send a smaller version, then try again.

  • “…didn’t pass the security scan…”: The file didn’t pass HiFi’s security check, so HiFi didn’t send it. Send a different file instead.

  • “This attachment type isn’t supported.”: Convert the file to a supported type, such as PDF or JPEG, and try again.

  • “Not sent, tap to resend”: Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, then tap the message to resend it.

  • I can’t choose a photo or open the camera: Allow photo and camera access for HiFi in your phone’s settings.
