Report spam and block a caller

What’s the difference between reporting and blocking?

Reporting and blocking do different things, and you can do either one or both:

  • Reporting tells HiFi that a number is spam or a scam. Your report helps improve HiFi’s spam detection. Reporting alone doesn’t stop the number from calling you.

  • Blocking stops calls from that number from reaching you. Blocked calls still appear in Call Activity, with the caption You added this caller to your block list.

When you report a call, you can choose to report only, or report and block the caller in one step.

Report a spam call from Call Details

  1. On Home, tap the call in Call Activity to open Call Details.

  2. Tap Report spam or scam.

  3. On the Report a spam or scam call sheet, choose whether to report only or to Report spam and block caller.

  4. Optional: Under Tell us more about the spam (optional), add details, like what the caller asked for.

  5. Send the report.

You can also start a report from the menu button (three dots) in the top corner of Call Details: tap Report spam.

HiFi confirms with Spam reported. In Call Activity, the call shows You reported this call as spam.

Block a caller from Call Details

Block a number without reporting it when you don’t want calls from that number anymore.

  1. On Home, tap the call in Call Activity to open Call Details.

  2. Tap the menu button (three dots) in the top corner.

  3. Tap Block.

To unblock the number later, open the same menu and tap Unblock. You can also unblock numbers from your Block list. See “Manage your blocked numbers”.

Block a saved contact

You can block someone who’s saved in your contacts from their contact details.

  1. Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Tap the contact to open their details.

  3. Tap Block caller.

The contact stays saved on your phone. Their calls are blocked until you unblock them.

Report or block someone who texts you

When you get a text from a number that isn’t in your contacts, a bar at the top of the conversation says First interaction with the number. Use the Report or Block option in that bar. You can also add the sender to your contacts from the same bar. See “Messages from unknown senders”.

What if I reported a call as spam by mistake?

Open the call in Call Details and tap Not a spam call? to tell HiFi the call isn’t spam. Your feedback helps improve spam detection. For more, see “How HiFi blocks spam and scam calls”.

If you also blocked the number, unblock it from Call Details or from your Block list.

Troubleshooting

  • You see “Report sent, but blocking the caller failed…”: HiFi sent your report but couldn’t add the number to your Block list. Open the call in Call Details and tap Block from the menu, or add the number from your Block list.

  • A blocked caller still shows up in Call Activity: That’s expected. Blocked calls don’t ring you, but HiFi keeps them in Call Activity so you can see them.
