# Scam and AI-voice warnings during calls

## How does HiFi warn me about scams during a call?

HiFi watches for signs of a possible scam while you’re on a call and warns you right away. It looks for two things:

- **Scam tactics.** The other person uses language or pressure tactics that scammers often use.

- **An AI-generated voice.** The voice on the call may be AI-generated or created by a machine, rather than a real person speaking.

The warning comes while you’re still on the call, so you have time to decide what to do. You don’t need to turn anything on.

## How will I know HiFi has a warning for me?

HiFi shows an alert on the call screen and vibrates your phone, so you notice even if you’re not looking at the screen.

- **An on-screen alert** explains what HiFi noticed.

- **Your phone vibrates.** A scam warning vibrates longer than an AI-voice warning.

    - **On iPhone:** three pulses for a scam warning, one pulse for an AI-voice warning.

    - **On Android:** a 3-second vibration for a scam warning, a 1-second vibration for an AI-voice warning.

You can read the alert without leaving the call.

## What does a scam warning say?

A scam warning appears when HiFi notices language or tactics often used by scammers. The alert is titled **Potential scam call** and says: “We have detected language or tactics often used by scammers. Use caution when sharing sensitive information or following their instructions. If you’re unsure, end your call.”

**On iPhone**, a banner first appears at the top of the call screen: **Fraud Detected**, “Caller matches known scam patterns. Proceed with caution”. Tap it to open **Fraud details**.

The alert has two buttons:

- **Dismiss:** Closes the alert and keeps the call going.

- **End call:** Ends the call.

## What does an AI-voice warning say?

An AI-voice warning appears when the voice on the call may be AI-generated or not a real person. The alert is labeled **AI or non-human voice** and says: “This may be an AI generated or non-human voice. Use caution.”

**On iPhone**, the banner reads “This is an AI generated or digitally created voice. Use caution.”

Some scammers use AI voices to sound like a family member, a bank, or a company you trust. If a caller asks for money, codes, or personal details, end the call. Then call the person or company back on a number you know is theirs.

## What should I do if I get a warning?

A warning means HiFi noticed signs of a possible scam. It doesn’t confirm that the caller is a scammer. Use it as extra information when you decide whether to keep talking.

- Don’t share passwords, one-time codes, bank details, or your Social Security number.

- Don’t send money or gift cards because a caller asks you to.

- If you’re unsure, tap **End call**. Then call the person or company back using a number you already trust.

- If you know the caller and the warning doesn’t fit, tap **Dismiss** and keep talking.

After the call, you can report the number and block it. See “Report spam and block a caller”.

## Can I see warnings after the call?

Yes. **Call Details** shows whether HiFi noticed signs of scam tactics or an AI-generated voice during the call. Open the call from **Call Activity** on **Home** to see the signal next to the summary and transcript. If you think the call was a scam, you can report and block the number from the same screen.

## Do scam warnings work when Incognito is on?

No. While **Incognito** is on, HiFi pauses scam and AI-voice warnings along with its AI listening. Warnings start again when you turn **Incognito** off. If you’re talking with someone you don’t know, consider leaving **Incognito** off so HiFi can keep watching for scam tactics. See “Keep part of a call private with Incognito”.
