# Use in-call controls

## What can I do during a call?

HiFi gives you the controls you’d expect on any phone call. During a call, you can:

- Mute and unmute your microphone.

- Switch to speaker or a Bluetooth device.

- Open the keypad to respond to a phone menu.

- Add a second call and merge the calls into a conference (iPhone).

- Put the call on hold (Android).

- Turn **Incognito** on or off.

- End the call.

The controls appear on the call screen, below the caller’s name. A **Recording** indicator on the call screen shows that the call is being recorded. After the call, you can read its transcript and summary in **Call Details**.

## Mute and unmute your microphone

Tap the mute button (microphone icon) on the call screen to stop the other person from hearing you. Tap it again to unmute.

Muting only turns off your microphone. You can still hear the other person, and the call stays connected. Remember to unmute before you start talking again.

## Use the speaker or a Bluetooth device

Switch where you hear the call from the call screen. The steps differ by platform.

**On iPhone:** Tap the speaker button to turn the speaker on or off. If a Bluetooth device is connected, the speaker button opens a list of audio devices instead. Tap your headphones, speaker, or car to move the call audio there.

**On Android:** Tap the audio button to open the audio-device picker. Choose **Speaker**, **Phone**, or your Bluetooth device.

Your Bluetooth device must already be paired with your phone to appear in the list. Pair it in your phone’s Bluetooth settings.

## Use the keypad for a phone menu

Open the keypad when an automated phone menu asks you to press a number, like “Press 1 for billing.”

**On iPhone:** Tap the keypad button on the call screen. Tap it again to collapse the keypad.

**On Android:** Tap **Keypad**. Tap **Hide Keypad** to close it.

The numbers you tap are sent to the phone menu right away.

## Add a call and merge a conference (iPhone)

On iPhone, you can merge two calls into one conversation when more than two people need to talk together.

1. During a call, tap **Add call**.

2. Dial the second person, or choose a contact. Your first call goes on hold.

3. When the second person answers, tap **Merge**.

The **Add call** button changes to **Merge** once there’s a second call.

Everyone can now hear each other. Tap **View participants** to see who’s on the call. In **Call Activity**, the call appears as a **Group Call**, and **Call Details** shows **Participants** with the number of people.

## Put a call on hold (Android)

On Android, tap **Hold** on the call screen to put the other person on hold. They can’t hear you while the call is on hold. Tap **Hold** again to go back to the call.

On both platforms, you can also put a call on hold when a second call comes in by choosing **Hold & Accept**. The waiting call shows **On hold, tap to switch**. For more, see “Receive calls in HiFi”.

## Turn on Incognito during a call

Tap **Incognito** on the call screen to keep part of a call private. While **Incognito** is on, HiFi’s AI stops listening. That part of the call isn’t included in the transcript or summary. Scam and AI-voice warnings are also paused. Tap **Incognito** again to turn it off.

For details, see “Keep part of a call private with Incognito”.

## End a call

Tap the end-call button (red phone icon) at the bottom of the call screen to hang up. **On Android**, the button is labeled **End Call**.

After the call ends, it appears in **Call Activity** on **Home**. From there, you can open **Call Details** to see the summary and transcript.

## Troubleshooting

- **The call screen shows “Find a stronger data or wi-fi signal to improve call quality”:** Your internet connection is weak. Move to a spot with better signal or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. See “Internet calling and call quality”.

- **Your Bluetooth device doesn’t appear:** Check that the device is on, paired, and connected in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Then open the audio options on the call screen again.

- **You don’t see the Incognito button:** Incognito may not be available in your version of HiFi yet. Update HiFi from the App Store or Google Play to get the latest features.
