HiFi lets you know in two ways when it’s handling a call for you:
A notification. You get a notification that HiFi is on a call.
A card on Home. A HiFi is on a call card appears at the top of Home, marked Happening now. If HiFi is handling more than one call, the card shows how many, for example HiFi is on 2 calls.
The card also says Tap the call to view live. From there, you can watch the call and step in at any time.
Open the live call screen to follow what the caller and HiFi are saying as it happens.
Tap the notification, or open HiFi and go to Home.
On the HiFi is on a call card, tap the call.
The live call screen shows a live transcript of the conversation. At the top, it says “HiFi is currently helping with the call. You can take over the call at any time.” Two buttons appear: Take over and End call.
The transcript updates as the caller and HiFi speak. It can take a few seconds for the first words to appear.
Tap Take over on the live call screen to start talking with the caller yourself.
Open the live call screen from the notification or from the HiFi is on a call card on Home.
Tap Take over.
HiFi hands the call to you and stops speaking. You’re now on a normal call, and you can use the usual in-call controls, like mute and speaker. The live call screen shows Call handed to you.
On Android: The notification for a call HiFi is handling also has take-over and end-call actions, so you can step in without opening HiFi.
After the call, the whole conversation appears as one entry in Call Activity. This includes both the part HiFi handled and the part you handled.
Tap End call on the live call screen to end a call that HiFi is handling. Use it when you don’t want the call to continue.
Open the live call screen from the notification or from the HiFi is on a call card on Home.
Tap End call.
The call ends for the caller. It still appears in Call Activity, along with any summary and transcript HiFi captured before the call ended.
The live call screen shows a short status line to tell you what’s happening:
Waiting for transcript: The call has connected, but no one has spoken yet, or the first words are still being processed.
No recent activity: Nobody has spoken for a while.
Caller hung up: The caller ended the call.
Call handed to you: You took over, or the caller asked to be transferred and the call rang you.
Assistant reached its limit: HiFi ended its part of the conversation, for example because the call ran too long.
Call timed out: The call ended because it lasted too long or stopped responding.
Once the call ends, open it from Call Activity to read the summary and full transcript.
When a caller asks HiFi to transfer them, HiFi rings your phone. Answer the call like any other call. The caller doesn’t need to hang up and call again.
There’s no transfer button for you to press. If you’d rather step in before the caller asks, tap Take over.
You see “Live conversation is no longer available.”: The call has ended, or it was already handed to you. Open the call from Call Activity on Home to see what happened.
You see “No response from live conversation. Please try again.”: HiFi couldn’t load the live call. Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, then tap the call on Home again.
You don’t get a notification when HiFi answers a call: Notifications for HiFi may be off. Turn them on in your phone’s Settings.
