Which calls ring my phone?
Your HiFi answers calls from setting decides which calls ring you first. Calls that the setting doesn’t send to HiFi ring your phone directly.
All callers: HiFi answers every call first. You can watch the call and take over.
Unknown callers only: Calls from your contacts ring you. HiFi answers everyone else.
Contacts only: Calls from people who aren’t in your contacts ring you. HiFi answers your contacts.
All calls should ring me first: Every call rings you.
A call also rings you when a caller asks HiFi to transfer them to you. While Snooze is on, every call rings you first.
To change the setting, go to Account & settings > Answering Calls > HiFi answers calls from. For details, see “Choose which calls HiFi answers”.
How do I answer an incoming call?
Answer a HiFi call the same way you answer any phone call. HiFi calls ring whether your phone is locked, unlocked, or HiFi is already open. You don’t need to open HiFi first.
When a call comes in, you get an incoming-call notification that shows the caller’s name if they’re in your contacts, or their phone number if they aren’t. Answer it to start a normal two-way conversation.
HiFi needs two permissions to ring you and carry your voice:
Notifications, so HiFi can alert you to incoming calls.
Microphone, so the other person can hear you.
On Android: HiFi also needs the Phone permission (Make and manage calls).
HiFi calls use the internet, so your phone needs a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. For more, see “Internet calling and call quality”.
What happens if I miss or decline a call?
HiFi answers any call that rings you and isn’t picked up. This includes calls you decline. HiFi tells the caller you’re unavailable and offers to take a message.
After the call, it appears in Call Activity on Home. The row shows a caption such as You missed a call from. When you open the call, the Call Details title reads Missed call from or Declined call from. If the caller left a message, you can play it and read a summary in Call Details.
For more, see “Read a call summary and transcript”.
How do I answer a second call while I’m on a call?
When a second call comes in during a call, HiFi gives you three choices:
Hold & Accept: Puts your current call on hold and answers the new call.
End & Accept: Ends your current call and answers the new call.
Decline: Keeps your current call going. HiFi answers the new caller and offers to take a message.
If you choose Hold & Accept, the first call shows On hold, tap to switch. Tap it to go back to the first caller. The second caller then goes on hold.
Troubleshooting
Your phone doesn’t ring for incoming calls: Check that notifications for HiFi are allowed in your phone’s Settings. Also check that you’re connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. If your HiFi answers calls from setting is All callers, HiFi answers first and your phone won’t ring unless a caller asks to be transferred.
Calls to your existing number ring your phone’s built-in Phone app instead of HiFi: Call forwarding may be off. If a card on Home asks you to Enable forwarding, tap it. See “Troubleshoot call forwarding”.
The caller can’t hear you: HiFi doesn’t have microphone access. Allow microphone access for HiFi in your phone’s Settings.
