What callers experience when HiFi answers

What happens when HiFi answers a call?

When HiFi answers, the caller hears a greeting, then HiFi asks who’s calling and why. The caller talks to HiFi in their own words, like a normal phone conversation. Callers don’t need HiFi or any special app. They call your number from any phone, as usual.

A typical call goes like this:

  1. HiFi answers with your greeting. The default greeting is “Hello! This is Alex’s assistant. May I ask who is calling?”, with your name in place of “Alex.”

  2. If you turned on Announce call recording, the caller hears that the call is being recorded.

  3. The caller explains who they are and why they’re calling.

  4. HiFi takes a message, answers a question, or connects the caller to you.

HiFi speaks in the voice you chose in HiFi voice. While HiFi is on the call, Home shows “HiFi is on a call,” and you can follow along live or take over. See “Watch a live call and take over from HiFi”.

Will callers hear my name?

It depends on your settings. HiFi’s default greeting includes your Preferred name. For callers who aren’t in your contacts, the Announce user name toggle controls whether HiFi announces your name. Turn it off if you’d rather not share your name with callers you don’t know. See “Set the name HiFi uses with callers”.

Can callers leave a message?

Yes. When a caller only needs to pass along information, they can leave a message with HiFi. If you missed or declined the call, HiFi tells the caller you’re unavailable and offers to take a message. Later, you can listen to the message and read the call summary in Call Activity on Home.

Can callers ask HiFi for information?

Yes, if you’ve added it to your Business Profile. HiFi can tell callers the services you offer, the areas you serve, your location, and your weekly hours. HiFi shares only what you’ve entered, so keep your details up to date. For anything else, the caller can leave a message for you. See “Tell HiFi about your business”.

Can callers ask to talk to me directly?

Yes. A caller can ask HiFi to be transferred to you. HiFi then rings your phone. If you answer, the caller continues the conversation with you on the same call. They don’t need to hang up and call again. You can also step in yourself at any time by tapping Take over while HiFi is on the call.
