Announce call recording to callers

What is the call recording announcement?

The call recording announcement is a short message at the start of a call that tells everyone the call is being recorded. You control it with the Announce call recording toggle. When the toggle is on, HiFi announces at the start of every call that it’s being recorded. Both you and the other person hear the announcement.

HiFi records calls so it can create transcripts and summaries. During a call, a Recording indicator appears on your call screen.

Turn the recording announcement on or off

  1. On Home, tap the profile button in the top corner to open Account & settings.

  2. Under Phone preferences, find Announce call recording.

  3. Turn the toggle on or off.

The setting applies to your next call. The description under the toggle reads: “When enabled, HiFi will announce at the start of every call that it is being recorded.”

Do I need to tell callers that a call is recorded?

You might, depending on where you live. Recording laws differ from state to state. Some states require that everyone on a call agrees to be recorded, not only one person. The app notes: “Depending on your state law, you may need to inform the other party.”

Turning on Announce call recording lets callers know at the start of each call. If you’re not sure what your state requires, check with a lawyer. This article isn’t legal advice.
