Add, edit, and delete contacts

How do contacts work in HiFi?

HiFi uses the contacts saved on your phone. It doesn’t keep a separate contact list. When you add or edit a contact in HiFi, your phone’s own contact editor opens. Changes you make there also appear in your phone’s Contacts app, and changes you make in the Contacts app appear in HiFi.

Contact names appear throughout HiFi, including in calls, Call Activity, and Messages.

Add a contact

Add a contact from the Contacts tab. Your phone’s contact editor opens, and the new contact is saved to your phone.

  1. Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Tap Add new.

  3. Enter the contact’s name, phone number, and any other details.

  4. Save the contact in your phone’s contact editor.

You can also add a caller as a contact from their Call Details. Open the call, then tap Add contact in the menu. In Messages, tap Add in the bar that appears the first time an unknown number texts you.

On iPhone: If you gave HiFi limited contacts access, make sure the new contact is included in the contacts you share with HiFi.

Edit a contact

Edit a contact from its details screen in HiFi. The change is saved to your phone.

  1. Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Find the contact. To find them faster, use Search contacts at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap the contact to open their details.

  4. Tap Edit.

  5. Make your changes, then save them in your phone’s contact editor.

Delete a contact

You can delete a contact only from inside your phone’s contact editor. Deleting a contact removes it from your phone, not only from HiFi.

  1. Tap the Contacts tab.

  2. Tap the contact to open their details.

  3. Tap Edit.

  4. Tap your phone’s delete option in the contact editor. On iPhone: Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Contact. On Android: The location depends on your phone’s Contacts app. It’s often in a menu at the top of the editor.

  5. Confirm that you want to delete the contact.

To take someone off the Frequent Contacts row on Home, you don’t need to delete them. Remove them from the row instead. See “Pin and manage Frequent Contacts”.

Troubleshooting

  • The Contacts tab says “You have no contacts”: HiFi doesn’t have access to your contacts, or your phone has none saved. Check contacts access in your phone’s Settings app.

  • A contact you added doesn’t appear in HiFi: On iPhone with limited access, add the contact to the contacts you share with HiFi.

  • You can’t find a delete button: Deleting is available only inside the contact editor. Tap Edit on the contact first.
